Viral Videos & How To Use Them To Your Brand’s Advantage

As I was “doom-scrolling” TikTok recently for fall fashion inspiration, a thought occurred to me: how are these fashion-focused TikTokers going viral or at the very least getting a decent amount of attention? How can Istart this process and begin to make money this way? Is this even possible for me? If the same thoughts have crossed your mind and you want to learn more, keep reading and I’ll explain how this works.

Why Do Videos Go Viral?

In some cases, trends will takeoff randomly and a creator gets lucky (Unfortunately, this is what occurred with “Hawk Tuah Girl”). But in most cases, social media fame and high engagement with posts takes precise planning and strategic movements. Unruly, a marketing technology company, analyzed 430 billion video views back in 2015 to help get a better understanding. They found that the most viral videos invoked a psychological response and social motivation. In terms of viral videos about fashion, people often watch videos of creators who look or dress in a way that inspires them and they want to be like so they can fit in more. Additionally, when you post and how often greatly affects engagement. Unruly also tells us that Wednesday is the most optimal day for posting, followed by Thursday and Friday. Lastly, I’ve always been advised that posting everyday on TikTok and at the very least, every other day is the bare minimum you need to make any progress.

How To Go Viral

How exactly can you make posts go viral? Oftentimes, creators and social media managers will base content on what’s currently trending, such as trending sounds on TikTok. For example, if you’re trying to showcase new inventory that your company is selling on TikTok and want to gain a lot of views, it’s important to pay close attention to what sounds are currently trending and utilize relevant hashtags. This also applies to you if you’re a content creator looking to increase your following and engagement. My personal strategy, if I were a content creator, as we’re approaching September and the beginning of Fall would be to base my post on the changing of seasons. Typically during this time of year, creators will use sounds on TikTok that come from hit TV Series “Gilmore Girls” that are reminiscent of pumpkin spice coffee and the leaves changing. I would pair that sound with a video of me building the perfect outfit formula for different climates using clothing pieces from my favorite brands, while tagging them. But if I were the social media manager for a clothing brand, I would keep an eye on creators posting with the aforementioned strategy, and try to strike up a deal where the creator makes a similar post using our inventory.

If keeping track of the various different trends on TikTok seems a bit overwhelming to you, don’t fret. There’s actually an app out there that can help you with trend predictions that utilizes AI technology. It’s called TrendTok Analytics & Tracker and it can be found on the app store. My greatest tip to you? Don’t be afraid to just go for It. Embarrassment is only real If you allow it to be, and you’ll have the last laugh when your silly little videos are making you money.
